How can I tell to what extent my ski wear is water-repellent?

The water column indicates to what degree a fabric is water-repellent. The higher the number, the better it repels water. If the number is high, it will take longer for the fabric to leak.  To determine the water column of a particular material, we look at how many millimeters of water it takes for the material to penetrate water. To give an example: When a garment has a water column of 5,000 mm, the material can withstand a maximum pressure of 5 meters of water. Then it is considered good ski wear.
